Getting Into the Business of Music with Prosound
Prosound is proud to present, in conjunction with David Chislett, a series of workshops aimed at helping anyone at work in the music business understand the mechanics of the industry better.
Presented by David Chislett, the 1st workshop takes a place on at Prosound Head Office Demo Room, Hillfox Centre on Tuesday 17 May from 7pm and focuses on the primary business building blocks of the industry. Chislett has been working in the SA music industry since the time of his first garage band in 1987. In 2010 he published 1,2,1,2: A Step By Step Guide To The SA Music Industry. Since then he has been travelling the country presenting workshops and speeches helping as many new artist, managers, or anyone interested in the business, understand how it works.
“Here at Prosound, we have always been happy to help out our clients and customers when it comes to gear, technical information and service,” commented Francois Lotter, marketing manager of Prosound, “It is great to now be able to facilitate the skills transfer with those self-same people about how the rest of the industry works in the hope that this will help them in other areas of their musical careers.”
In the business basics workshops Chislett covers record labels, managers, publishers, agreements and copyright in simple, easy to understand modules with plenty of interactive question and answer sessions. “I consider this the beginners tool kit in a way,” says Chislett of the workshop, “With these facts and ideas firmly in place, you will avoid most of the worst pitfalls in the music industry that you have heard horror stories about!”
Attendance is free, and Prosound will be selling his book on the night and in store from now onwards.
