Wild and Marr was called in to design a sound and lighting system for the proposed performance auditorium of the Tshwane University of Technology’s Music department. JBL SRX738 three- way loudspeakers were identified as the right product as they would deliver open and transparent mid and high frequency performance which is ideally suited to jazz where the ability to enjoy the nuances and detail in the music is paramount. Being a three-way system with an 18-inch transducer taking care of the sub and bass frequencies, no additional subwoofers were required. JBL AC28/95 and AC28/120 compact front fill loudspeakers were installed to ensure even coverage and coherence in the front rows. The system is powered by Crown CTS amplifiers with a CTS3000 driving the two 18” sub-bass loudspeakers, CTS2000 driving the mid/highs in passive mode and a CTS1200 to drive the AC28 front fills.
A BSS Soundweb BLU160 processor with 96KHz sample capability was used for loudspeaker management and processing while a Soundcraft GB424 was chosen for its simplicity of operation balanced with the high quality GB30 microphone pre-amplifiers and musical EQ section.
