Observatory’s 15th Festival is more organised than ever thanks to The Observatory Village of Arts, a recently formed NPO focused on promoting local artists. The 2011 line-up will include the likes of aKing, Bed on Bricks, Firefly, Reburn, Tidal waves, Van Coke Cartel and The Rudimentals. Saturday will feature a carnival theme, finishing off with some chilled Blues on Sunday.
Of course I am looking forward to Obs fest!,’ says Donovan Copley of the infamous local band Hot Water, who will be performing as part of the festival. But if great music is not enough to tickle your fancy, you can also expect to see a whole variety of different arts involved in the festival this year. Showcases will include; theater arenas, dancers, puppets, circus acts and an interactive graffiti wall. Shop fronts will be transformed into mini art galleries for the weekend.
‘Observatory has always had a huge arts culture,’ says Andrew Fife, Festival Project Manager.
‘There are lots of artistic people living and working here and we want to start including all these different art forms into the festival.’

Festival tickets are priced at R50 for Friday, R70 for Saturday, R20 for Sunday and R90 for an all-weekend pass. Tickets can be purchased through Webtickets.
