This non-profit Section 21 theatre is in financial difficulty. With the high mortgage bonds used for the refurbishing of the theatre, the high costs of electricity, water and rates, the theatre is turning to the public and companies for support.
Since re-launching in 2007, the Victory Theatre has spent over R24-million revamping and restoring the theatre. It would be a shame to lose this important landmark in Johannesburg.
The theatre is appealing to the public and companies to help keep its doors open:
- Patrons can make a donation in the form of purchasing your own seat at the Victory [value negotiable];
- Patrons can make a donation by purchasing a personalized plaque to be featured in the building [value negotiable];
- The Victory Theatre is offering corporates the opportunity to naming rights of the theatre – The [SPONSOR NAME] Victory Theatre. This figure is negotiable and will depend on duration and size of exposure for the sponsor.
Donations can be made into the SAVE THE VICTORY RECREATION CENTRE TRUST account:
Account Name: The Victory Recreation Centre
Account Number: 62140995468
Branch Name: FNB Malvern
Branch Code: 250655
These funds and donations received will go towards the mortgage payments only. The money in this account will be used solely for this purpose and the books are open for verification and auditing with the bank.
Patrons can also support the theatre by purchasing tickets to watch the proudly South African and world-acclaimed theatre production, UMOJA: The Spirit of Togetherness. Shows now run 5 days a week from Tuesday to Saturday and tickets are available through Computicket or the box office (011 728 9603). These funds will go towards paying the performers and staff and general running costs.
The theatre is a non-profit Section 21 company that employs 102 staff and performers. The closure of the theatre would mean the loss of these jobs for these people. The Victory Theatre is an intimate 450-seater theatre; has a music bar; a 300-seater restaurant and four levels of secure access-controlled parking.
The Victory Theatre is calling on any schools, universities and other arts and drama clubs to host their productions and functions at the theatre. The venue is also available for product launches, end of year functions, private functions and conferencing. Enquiries can be made directly with the Victory on 011 728 9603 or victorytheatre.za@gmail.com.
For more information on plaque and seat purchases or for general queries, please contact Monica Ferreira on 011 728 9603 / 082 452 2095 or monica@stingmusic.co.za.
Any assistance in this regard will be greatly appreciated in the fight to save the Victory Theatre.
