Kristian Matsson, the Swedish singer song-writer is a soft-spoken guy who stands somewhere around five and a half feet tall. But on stage, he’s known as The Tallest Man on Earth, a name he’s earned with his unforgettable live performances and one of the boldest, most captivating voices around.
Following sell-out performances in the UK, Europe and Australia for his latest album tour “The Wild Hunt”, Matsson will be coming to South African stages for the first time in February 2012. He will perform at two intimate venues – first in Cape Town on Friday, 10th February at the CTICC, and then in Johannesburg on Saturday, 11th February at the Joburg Theatre.
After releasing his critically acclaimed album “Shallow Grave” Matsson wrote and performed songs on his second album “The Wild Hunt” in the months after touring with John Vanderslice and Bon Iver, garnering more fans along the way and rave reviews from the likes of Rolling Stone Magazine and Pitchfork who praised him as “a natural-born folksinger, earnest, clever, and comforting.”
“The Tallest Man On Earth is an artist that we personally enjoy very much. It is incredible to see how his music and popularity has spread through mostly word of mouth in South Africa. We can’t wait to introduce one of the best live acts to SA fans for this first time”, says Blaise Janichon from Your Friends, the promoters of the SA Tour.
Matsson has often been compared to Dylan and although his influences still weave through some of his songs, his sound is undeniably authentic and unique. But it is Matsson’s passion on stage that cuts deep into memory. The energy and raw emotion that bleeds through all his performances is mesmerizing. He is a man with a story to tell and doing so with his exquisitely beautiful music, unmistakable gravelly voice, timeless melodies and haunting lyrics, it is easy to see why he is called “The Tallest Man on Earth”.
