TAXI VIOLENCE releases emotional new single and wins International Video Award

Taxi Violence, one of SA’s top Rock Bands, gave their fans a pleasant surprise when they released their first Unplugged album in May 2011 with “Unplugged: Long Way From Home”. Having already garnered success with 2 hit singles, “Heads or Tails (unplugged)” and “Long Way From Home”, the 3rd single “Between The Heavens And The Deep Blue Sea” hits very close to home, especially for front man, George van der Spuy.

“The musical composition for the song was written in studio during the same period that my father had a stroke and shortly after passed away. There was a degree of uncertainty as to what the outcome would be after the stroke. One half of the lyrics were written during this period and the other half after he passed away. Not only is the song dedicated to him, but the entire Unplugged album for all the help and support he gave to the band over the years.” responds vocalist George van der Spuy, when asked about the song writing process behind the song.

The tracks from “Unplugged: Long Way From Home” are reworked versions of songs from the albums ‘Untie Yourself’ and ‘The Turn’, except for three new tracks, which includes the new single “Between The Heavens And The Deep Blue Sea”, released to radio the week of 14 November.

When losing a father, most sons wish they had the talent to immortalise their dad in a song. There’s no wishing for George. He did it.

Taxi Violence – Between The Heavens And The Deep Blue Sea by sheergroup

Song Lyrics: “Between the Heavens and the Deep Blue Sea”

I never thought I’d see the day where hearts and worlds divide

It turned my vision upside down and spat me to the side

I feared the worst could happen and I feared a dreary day

Where all I’d known would disappear and leave me frail and pale

Between the Heavens and the deep blue sea

I wait for my saving grace

Resistance would have been pointless, a waste of energy

Misguided would I walk the earth and troubled I would be

I feared that I would wake and I feared it was all true

Reality old friend has finally dawned upon me too

Between the Heavens and the deep blue sea

I wait for my saving grace

Young and upcoming director, Ryan Kruger, has done it again at the 2011 Wirral International Film Festival. Having won the Best Video Award for “The Turn” by Taxi Violence at last year’s awards ceremony, 2011 has seen him win the Best Video Award once again for his work on “Heads or Tails (Unplugged)”, also by Taxi Violence. All winners will also automatically be entered into next year’s Italian Film Festival held in the twin peninsula of Sezze Latina. Taxi Violence and 2 Feet Music wishes Ryan all the best of luck!
