SA Band 3rd in International Video Competition “Break Free”

Local South African band Son of a Thousand wins third place in Tom Tom’s international Break free video competition.

SING WIN AND BREAK FREE was the campaign that got over 32 000 people around the world voting for videos submitted to Tom Tom. The brief was simple: To be stuck in a traffic jam and to use the song “I Want To Break Free” by Queen. Tom Tom had done a couple of their own humorous versions with actor John Cleese to get the campaign going.

South African band Son of a Thousand loved the concept and created their own version of I Want To Break Free. Their version of the song got much attention and from here things just fell into place, Justin Head – Night Drive director from A Breed Apart Films and crew from Little Shack Studios climbed on board to create the video called “Under Pressure!”. Son of a Thousand proved that they are not just talented musicians but that they can act really well.

The video shows Lars and Leonard played by Federico Fernandez (Lead Guitar) and Shaun Parsons (Vox) stressed out and stuck in a traffic jam, there is a lot of humorous banter between them. Leonard puts on some music to calm the situation and Lars drifts into a dream world where he is a real rock star jamming with the band Son of a 1000 in the traffic … with screaming fans an all.

Justin, Little Shack, Son of a 1000 and a few friends did it just for fun but are ecstatic about winning third place in a world wide competition…….Perhaps the world will notice some of the talent SA has to offer.
