Apparently, if you remember the seventies then you were never there. But few can ever forget laid-back ‘Light My Fire’, or the world hit ‘Feliz Navidad’. Does it ring any bells? They were both sung by folk legend Jose Feliciano.
This year sees the troubadour going on a world tour, ‘Where’s Jose’. And as many will argue, his sound might have been around for 3 generations, it’s still as fresh as it was in the seventies.
Jose Feliciano will feature SA as one of the destinations in his world tour this coming 3rd and 4th May. Carnival City will be setting up the stage after which Jose, with the support of new generation singer-songwriter Farryl Purkiss, will set it on fire with their guitars.
Jose has after all, been hailed as best pop guitarist of all time. Other than winning 9 Grammys (and being credited with another 19 nominations), and having more than fourty gold and platinum records, has been recognised as opening the English music market for many Latin artists – from the likes of Julio Iglesius, to Shakira and Ricky Martin.
Farryl Purkiss might still be a junior in comparison, but can hold his own. The celebrated local talent has already played alongside favourites like Ben Lee, Crowded House, Lior and Missy Higgins to name a few; and in addition also recently released a new 12-track album, ‘Home’.
Considering all of the above, and adding the fact that Carnival City’s Big Top Arena can seat up to 4000, you’re in for a night of guitar toting delight. Tickets prices start at R300, and the earlier your book the better.
