Stellenbosch based band 3rd World Spectator have released the cinematic video for their current single Ambulance, a Universal Music Group/Silverlining Pictures co-production, directed by Padraic O’Meara from Silverlining Pictures.
Shot on location in Stellenbosch in November 2011, the cinematography of the video was done by Caleb Heymann who has worked with South African bands such as The Parlotones, Taxi Violence, Die Antwoord and aKing. The video was shot with the revolutionary Red Epic, a camera that has now become the industry standard when it comes to shooting blockbuster movies. The video was shot with this camera to employ a dramatic and cinematic atmosphere, with rich tones and crystal clear quality.
“From the get-go we wanted to launch the single and album with a video that was world class. We believe that we have worked with a team of professionals who not only understood the themes but conveyed it in a spectacular visual style.” – Peter Crafford, vocalist of 3rd World Spectator
The central theme of the video alludes to a modern reinterpretation of Greek mythology and the tale of Orpheus and Eurydice in the underworld, and how Orpheus visits Eurydice, only to end up where he started. The lyrics of the song reinforce this frustration, giving way to somebody who pleads for salvation and who wants to be relieved of their pain.
Ambulance is the first single from 3rd World Spectator‘s debut album The Theory of Everything and has already been playlisted on major and campus radio stations across South Africa. The single has also made the National Top 40 singles and is also currently in the Top 5 Most Downloaded Alternative Singles on OMusic.com. The video is also currently on high rotation on MK Channel 324.
