South Africa’s own radio-rock heroes are back with their fourth album and this band is just going from strength to strength. Once again enlisting South African hit-maker Theo Crous to make sure this baby goes platinum, Jekyll & Hyde is all-killer-no-filler. First single off the album, Breathing, is testament to Ross & Co’s ability to pen songs with that unforgettable triumphant sounding chorus that you just can’t help singing along to. Firmly etched into the minds of South Africa’s radio listeners and general public, no metaphorical comparisons are needed for this new album as there is no drastic departure from their tried and tested recipe of anthemic ballads and Nickelback / Daughtry style rockers. With Theo Crous convincing the brass at EMI that mixing the album at producer Kevin Shirley’s (Iron Maiden, Journey) studio in Malibu, California would be a worthwhile investment, this is definitely one of the best sounding South African productions I have heard and will no doubt guarantee the band another mega-seller and in the process elevate them to a new level of professionalism. Hat’s off to one of South Africa’s hardest working bands and hopefully a major export one day too.
