Step up guitar virtuoso Metal fans. Jeff Loomis, the shredder behind Nevermore releases his second solo album and could easily have wannabe guitarists give up their quest. However, his talented mastering of the instrument should be an inspiration. With an impressive rhythm section of Dirk Verbeuren (Soilwork) and newcomer Shane Lentz, this powerhouse of an album is a journey of emotions, intensity and calm, with the guitar telling each tale with superb accuracy. The predominantly instrumental album includes additional guest musicians like guitarist Marty Friedman and Chris Poland (both former-Megadeth), bandmate Attila Vörös (Nevermore), and Tony MacAlpine (Steve Vai). Ihsahn (from Emperor) and Christine Rhoades provide some vocals.
Maniacal fret-board licks don’t mean much to some who just want a good pounder to fire them up, but you cannot deny amazing talent like this. From as mild as an acoustic solo piece, through a power ballad with female vocals to an intense extreme Metal cut with blastbeats and all, this Loomis album covers all the bases.
